High-gloss flake floor installed over properly ground concrete
POLYUREA VS EPOXY

The one-day polyurea pitch, translated.

If you have had a franchise salesman in your kitchen, you have heard it: polyurea is 4x stronger, epoxy yellows, one day and you park on it. Some of that is chemistry, most of it is a sales script. Here is what each claim actually means - so you can read any bid, including ours.

The four claims, one at a time

None of these are lies, exactly. They are lab facts doing sales work they were never meant to do.

CLAIM 1

"Polyurea is 4x stronger than epoxy"

That number comes from a tensile test on a cured chip of resin in a lab. Floors do not fail by being stretched - they fail where the coating meets the concrete.

  • Real-world failure is delamination at the bond line, not resin tearing
  • The bond comes from diamond grinding and a penetrating base coat
  • A flexible resin over rushed prep still peels - just more flexibly
CLAIM 2

"Epoxy yellows in the sun"

True for bare, bargain epoxy. It is why nobody serious leaves epoxy as the wear surface. Our floors are finished in polyaspartic - the same UV-stable chemistry family as polyurea.

  • Our top coat does not amber, chalk, or fade
  • The epoxy lives underneath, where UV never reaches it
  • What you walk and park on is the same class of coating they sell - over a thicker base
CLAIM 3

"Installed in one day"

Fast-cure resin is real. But a one-day job means prep, repair, moisture handling, broadcast, and top coat all compressed into hours - and thin coats are what cure that fast.

  • Our day one is prep: grinding, crack repair, moisture metering
  • 100% solids epoxy base builds more thickness than thin fast-cure coats
  • A floor is a 20-year decision - a schedule built around speed serves the installer, not you
CLAIM 4

"Lifetime manufacturer warranty"

Read what it covers: defects in the resin itself. The manufacturer does not send a crew when a floor peels - and almost no floor fails because the chemical plant made a bad batch.

  • Floors fail at installation - prep, moisture, thickness, timing
  • A product warranty does not cover the thing that actually goes wrong
  • Ask any bidder: who shows up, and who pays the labor, if this peels?

THE HONEST VERSION

Polyurea and polyaspartic are cousins. Prep is the whole game.

Polyurea, polyaspartic, and modern 100% solids epoxy are all professional-grade resins. Installed over properly ground, repaired, moisture-tested concrete, any of them outlives the sales pitch. Installed over a rushed afternoon of prep, all of them peel.

We build with a 100% solids epoxy base - thick, penetrating, bonded into ground concrete - under a UV-stable polyaspartic top coat, and we put our own lifetime workmanship warranty behind the install, next to the Leggari product warranty. Two backings: the manufacturer covers the resin, and the owner who installed your floor covers the work.

Three questions that sort every bidder

Ask these on every estimate, including ours. The answers tell you more than any brochure.

ASK

"Do you moisture-test my slab?"

Ground moisture is the number one floor killer in Western Washington. If they do not meter the slab, they are guessing with your money.

  • We meter every slab before quoting
  • Vapor barrier epoxy when readings call for it
  • If your slab does not need it, you do not pay for it
ASK

"Who installs it, and who answers later?"

Franchise crews rotate. Subcontractors disappear. Ask who is physically on your floor and whether the person quoting will ever see it again.

  • Owner on every Evergreen install
  • The person who quotes it installs it and warranties it
  • Local - Ferndale, WA, not a national call center
ASK

"What exactly does the warranty cover - in writing?"

Get the document, not the word lifetime. Product-only warranties exclude the labor to fix anything.

  • Our lifetime workmanship warranty is written into every contract
  • Leggari product warranty passes through on top
  • Read ours any time: the warranty page

Get a bid you can read side by side.

Itemized, moisture-tested, flat number, both warranties in writing. Put it next to the one-day pitch and decide with the facts in front of you. Payment plans available - ask at your estimate.
